Babygarten
The Alton Public Library is having Babygarten on Wednesday mornings
at 10:00. A program will be held on April 6. Parents, grandparents and caregivers are invited to attend with children aged 0 -3 years old.

Girls Circle
Girl’s Circle is a new after school program being held at the Alton Public Library. All girls in grades 3rd – 7th are welcome to come and join the fun! Girl’s Circle is a nationally renowned program which allows girls to come together to build self-esteem and resiliency as well as help them build trusting relationships and support as they make life changing decisions in the future. Cheryl Buntsma, Compass Pointe, will conduct the courses. Registration is required – Please stop by the Alton Public Library to pick up a form. Girl’s Circle programs will also be held on April 13, 20, and 27. Check website for time.

Magazine, Video & Book Sale
Our annual magazine, video and book sale began on Friday, April 1 at the Alton Public Library! Items for sale: Bundle of Magazines $.25 – Videos FREE – Hardcover books $.50 – Paperbacks $.25. The sale will continue through Saturday, April 30. All proceeds will go to purchasing new items to add to our collection.

Lego Club
We are holding Lego Club workshops on the following Wednesday afternoons – April 6 and May 4 from 3:30 – 4:30 pm. All children in grades 2nd – 8th grade are welcome to attend. This program is limited to the first 20 children that sign up. Call or stop in today to register.

National Library Week
Come to the library the week of April 11 -16 and help us celebrate National Library Week!

Easter Egg Hunt Moved Indoors!

Due to the weather the Easter Egg Hunt will be held inside. 0-5 will be at the Alton Library and 6-11 will be at MOC-FV Middle School Old Gym – use the North entrance. Both hunts will begin sharply at 10 AM. “Pockets Full of Fun” will be at the Old Gym 10:15-11:00.

Library News 03/21/16

Library Closing Early
The Alton Public Library will be closing at 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 24 in observance of Maundy Thursday. The library will be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday.

Easter Activities
The annual Easter egg hunt will be held at the Band Shell Park in Alton on Saturday March 26 at 10:00 am. After the egg hunt, all children are invited to come to the Alton Public Library for a special program presented by Lisa Laird and some her friends from Pockets Full of Fun!

Frank Van Es & Daryn Dau Retire

On behalf of the Alton Fire Department & EMS would like to say Happy Retirement to Frank Van Es and Daryn Dau. Frank had 40 years of total service he served as Assistant chief from 1988 to 2000 and as Chief from 2000 to 2015. Daryn Dau served as a firemen from 2003 to 2015. We thank you for all your years of service and dedication. We would also like to say congratulations to Quintin Van Es he was voted in as our new fire chief.

Free E-Recycle

FREE recycling program that will accept computer monitors, CPU’s, keyboards and mouse(s), laptops, printers, servers, cell phones, TV’s, small batteries, sound equipment, VCR’s, fax machines, and AC adapters. 

Items can be dropped off at the Alton City Hall, 905 3rd Ave., on Friday, May 6 from 4:00-7:00 P.M. and Saturday, May 7 from 9:00-12:00 noon.

Sorry, car batteries and light bulbs are not allowed.

Alton’s Annual Spring Clean-Up Day Monday, May 2.

Alton residents must purchase a $10 lawn flag (one for each household), at the Alton City Office or from Orange City Sanitation. Crews will only remove items that have a special lawn flag displayed nearby.

Allowable Items: garage and home items, furniture/wood items, mattresses/carpets.

Non-Allowable Items: all appliances/white goods, building-remodeling materials, wood chips, auto parts (tires, batteries, etc.), concrete, steel/iron, yard waste, tree branches, oil, yard chemicals or wet paints. Special pickup arrangements may be made available from OC Sanitation (737-2645).

E-Recycle will be May 6 & 7.
