Build A Better World
The Summer Reading program has begun! All children in grades K – 5th are welcome to come and attend the programs and read for prizes. Programs will be held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 1:00 pm in the meeting room of the library. Those in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade may pick up their reading logs. Bees, Bees, Bees
A special summer reading program will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 1:00 pm. Ron the beekeeper will share with us what bees do and how they live!

Preschool Story Time
Come join the fun on Wednesday mornings during the month of June for our Preschool Story Time! All children age 3 – 5 are welcome to come for a time of reading, singing, and crafts. Programs will be held at 10:30 am on June 7, 14, 21, and 28.

Library Closed
The Alton Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day.

Build A Better World
The Alton Public Library will be having a Summer Reading Program for children in Preschool – 8th grade. The theme this summer is “Build a Better World”. Programs will be held from June 6 through June 29. Children in grades K – 5th meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Preschool on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 am and teens (6th – 8th grade) can pick up their reading logs on June 6. Hanson Family Jugglers
The Hanson Family Jugglers and Unicyclists from Kanawha, Iowa, will perform their 2017 Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, June 6 at 1:00 pm at the Alton Public Library.
Mark Hanson, a two-time Guinness World Record holder for speed juggling, his national unicycle champion daughter, Christa, and the rest of the Hanson Family, are bringing their talents to our library to present their “I Can Build A Better World” program.

Bring your kids to hear inspiring stories and watch the Hanson family perform amazing juggling and unicycle tricks they have showcases on two occasions for the world famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team.
Discover how to improve yourself through reading and how to build a better world with inspirational ideas. Make sure you stay till the end when two brave souls get a chance to survive the spine tingling Danger Trick! Many items have been left at our library. Please check the lost and found box located in the entry or ask the staff for articles kept behind the desk. All items left after May 31 will be given to Bibles for Missions.

Due to staffing conflicts during the Tulip Festival, the Alton Public Library will be closed on Saturday, May 20. All items due will be renewed until Monday, May 22.

Playing Cards @ APL
The Alton Public Library would like to invite all adults interested in playing cards to come on Tuesday afternoons @ 1:30 pm. Games are played in the lower level. All ages welcome to attend this weekly program!

“For 98 years, Children’s Book Week has been an annual celebration of books for young people. Established in 1919, it is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country.” Be sure to stop by the library this week and help us celebrate Children’s Book Week (May 1 – 6).

Afterschool Workshop
All children in grades K – 6th are invited to the afterschool workshop on Friday, April 28 from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. Sarah Davelaar from the Sioux County Conservation Board will present a program on animal tracks. “How do the animals walk? Once you are an expert at tracking, can you solve the mystery before we find the mystery animal?” Find out the answers to these questions and many more interesting facts on animal tracks!

Library Closing – 5pm Thursday, April 13

The Alton Public Library will be closing at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 in observance of MaundyThursday.

The library will be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday.

Library News 04/11/17 – Summer Reading Program and More!

Preschool Story Time
Come join the fun as we read stories, sing songs, and make crafts! Programs will be held on April 12, 19 and May 3. All sessions are held from 10:30 – 11:30 am.

Easter Activities
The annual Easter egg hunt will be held at the Band Shell Park in Alton on Saturday, April 15 at 10:00 am. After the egg hunt, all children are invited to hop on over to the Alton Public Library for crafts!

Build a Better World

The adult book club will meet on Tuesday, April 25 at 6:30 pm. This month we are reading the book The Boys in the Bunkhouse by Dan Barry. Copies are available for you to pick up at our library.
