On Your Mark, Get Set…Read!
The Alton Public Library will be having a Summer Reading Program for children in
Preschool – 8th grade. You may register by giving us a call, stopping by the library, or signing up on our website www.alton.lib.ia.us Kickoff is planned for Tuesday, June 7 @ 1:00 pm.

Lost And Found
Many items have been left at our library. Please check the lost and found box located in the entry or ask the staff for articles kept behind the desk. All items left after May 31 will be given to Bibles for Missions.

Library Will Be Closed
Due to staffing conflicts during the Tulip Festival, the Alton Public Library will be closed on Saturday, May 21. All items due will be renewed until Monday, May 23.

Children’s Book Week
“For 97 years, Children’s Book Week has been an annual celebration of books for young people and finding joy in reading. Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, and homes-wherever young readers and books connect.” Be sure to stop by the library this week and help us celebrate Children’s Book Week (May 2 – 7).

Plant Exchange

Do your plants need a new home? Come to the Alton Public Library on Wednesday, April 27 from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. We are hosting a plant exchange for anyone who would like to bring in or pick up new varieties of plants. Vegetables (asparagus, rhubarb, etc.) flowers (day lily, iris, dahlia, phlox, etc.) or perennial herbs are just a few examples of plants that may need a new home. If you have any questions, please call the library at 756-4516.

Magazine, Video & Book Sale

Our annual magazine, video and book sale will continue through Saturday, April 30. Items for sale: Bundle of Magazines $.25 – Videos FREE – Hardcover books $.50 – Paperbacks $.25. All proceeds will go to purchasing new items to add to our collection.

Girl’s Circle is a nationally renowned program which allows girls to come together to build self-esteem and resiliency as well as help them build trusting relationships and support as they make life changing decisions in the future. Cheryl Buntsma, Compass Pointe, will conduct the courses. Registration is required – Please stop by the Alton Public Library to pick up a form. Girl’s Circle programs will also be held on April 13, 20, and 27. Check website for time.

Easter Egg Hunt Moved Indoors!

Due to the weather the Easter Egg Hunt will be held inside. 0-5 will be at the Alton Library and 6-11 will be at MOC-FV Middle School Old Gym – use the North entrance. Both hunts will begin sharply at 10 AM. “Pockets Full of Fun” will be at the Old Gym 10:15-11:00.

Library Closing Early
The Alton Public Library will be closing at 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 24 in observance of Maundy Thursday. The library will be open regular hours on Friday and Saturday.

Easter Activities
The annual Easter egg hunt will be held at the Band Shell Park in Alton on Saturday March 26 at 10:00 am. After the egg hunt, all children are invited to come to the Alton Public Library for a special program presented by Lisa Laird and some her friends from Pockets Full of Fun!
